A Week in Provence at L'Avinia - 3 Bedroom House (Provence)

A Week in Provence at L'Avinia - 3 Bedroom House

Nestled in Provence's sunny and tranquil countryside of lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards is the historical town of Uzès, the focal point of the region. L'Avinia is a traditional hundred-year-old stone house, 8 minutes drive from Uzès. Fully renovated in 2013 and with a heated pool, the house also retains its period charm. 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 4 lavatories provide accommodation for 8.

L'Avinia is a grand hundred-year-old bastide house, renovated early 2013 respecting the authentic history and soul of the property: traditional stone construction, central staircase with a wonderful hundred-year patina gently worn into the stone steps, fine volumes and proportions, with floors in traditional antique Provence tile.

The extensive renovation work (including removing 3 load-bearing walls, creating 2 new bedrooms and 2 new bathrooms, plus adding the heated pool), furnishing and detail decoration were all done by our in-house A La Carte Design team, the same team that designed all our Paris rentals commissioned by investors wanting to own a Paris apartment that they can rent out when not using it themselves.

Naturally, the interior design of the house had to match the natural beauty of its Provençal surroundings. The house also had to integrate well with our portfolio of Paris properties and meet the high standards and esthetic preferences of our existing client base.

The aim was therefore to achieve a similar welcoming warmth and feel to our Paris apartments, yet translated into the traditional muted tones, materials and country antiques of Provence.

In terms of layout, the central stone staircase serves 3 levels, distributing a grand double living room, spacious dining room, kitchen, 4 generous bedrooms, 4 bath/shower rooms and 4 lavatories. The house therefore accommodates up to 8 people in comfort, whatever the season (two wood-burning fireplaces make winter periods special too).

The Provençal kitchen is very cosy and includes 2 comfy armchairs arranged around a large central fireplace. Well appointed, the kitchen features a Lacanche traditional stove and oven, plus a big American fridge / freezer with chilled filtered water and ice dispenser.

The view is a strong point of this house, with the 3 large living room windows and 2 of the 4 bedrooms opening onto panoramic views over the Provence countryside, saturated with color and scent.

The sunny south-facing garden is protected from the Mistral wind and is peaceful, with no through-traffic on the quiet country road crossing this little village.

The garden includes a large terrace and a 7mx2,20m pool to stay cool and fresh, from May to October (solar-heated for optimum comfort in spring and autumn).

The garden furniture includes a large teak table & 8 teak chairs for outdoor eating, 2 big umbrellas for shade, a Weber triple-burner gas barbecue, 4 sun lounger mattresses, an outdoor sofa and 4 reclining chairs.

Although the garden is quite compact, it offers everything needed for memorable moments of relaxation with loved ones. Also, there is a 1500m² public garden directly opposite the house for your kids to run around or play games in. The garden is almost always deserted, so it feels like having a big private garden extension.

Active people will be happy here too, with mountain bikes provided, and Badminton, Ping Pong and a traditional boules set (the boules area is just 50m away on the village square).

The charm and comfort of L'Avinia and its ideal location come together to bring you the perfect week in Provence: a truly relaxing and enchanting stay for up to 8 people, in any season.

“We saw so much and then came home to a comfortable, cozy and very beautifully decorated home each night. Whether you take a vacation to sit at the villa and enjoy the lovely area and amenities of the home, or use the home as a base and travel the countryside, we would definitely recommend it for both comfort and location. Our only complaint was one of the couches in the common room was less cushy than we like but to each their own. We definitely recommend the villa to anyone who is travelling in the area!”

“A group of 8 adults rented the Traditional Stone House with Pool for a week in September, 2014. What a delightful place. There were 4 bedrooms and 4 baths, which was important to our delegation. We contacted hostess Carole in March to make plans for our stay in Provence. The location was ideal for our day trips into the area. As the process developed, we had many questions and Carole was always available with answers and clarifications. We remained in contact with her during our stay. Claire met us on arrival and gave us a tour and the expectations for our stay. We were greeted with wine, which was a nice welcome after a long drive. The house is well decorated with a "homey" touch. We were impressed with the accommodations and the location. It is a quick trip in to Uzes to pick up supplies, touring, shopping, etc. For a small community, it has some really good restaurants. There is a notebook at the property with a list of restaurants and their cuisine. It was a treat to go to the La Bruguiere town square on Tuesday evening for pizza from a mobile food truck. The bedrooms were large and the beds comfortable. The kitchen was well supplied and put to good use for meals. The patio and pool were convenient and made for a relaxing time for meals and socializing. There is a bakery a short drive from the house and grocery stores within a 15 minute drive. Overall, our stay was topnotch. We would highly recommend this for an extended stay in southern France.”

“It was our pleasure recently to spend a relaxing week at "A Week in Provence at L'Avinia" apartment arranged by A La Carte Paris, from the Sat, 20 May 2017 to the Sat, 27 May 2017.

This wonderful family residence - it would not be right to call it an apartment as we have rented in past years in Paris - is conveniently situated in the South of France, close to Uzes in the Gard Department. Uzes is a superb town, beautifully maintained, with many buildings dating back to the early Middle Ages, and a history that goes back to Roman occupation times. We really enjoyed the ambiance of Uzes, the passages and squares, and the food.

L'Avinia is within easy distance of such well known towns as Nimes, Arles, Ales, Avignon, and Aix. We drove to these towns (none more than 60-70 leisurely minutes, some just 30) and used as many different scenic roads as we could plan. In addition, quite close, is the Pont du Gard, an amazing and historic aqueduct from the earliest days of Roman settlement. We also took a longer day drive to Lyon, France's second city.

L'Avinia itself is about a century old, and has been renovated entirely in sympathy with the age and natural beauty of the building. Spacious and restful, the modern conveniences including a bathroom for each bedroom, blend so well into the patina of the structure. Although we were on the move daily, somehow we managed to be back at the house around 5pm, to sit by the pool, enjoy a chilled Rose, and some local cheeses.

This is a facility which is excellent for active sightseeing and tourism, or for a period of rest and relaxation; maybe to write a chapter in the next bestseller, or work some oils into a canvas. It's your vacation, and you get to choose.”

“A wonderful space for a reunion of family coming from Luxembourg, Washington State and Oregon (USA). The home and garden are beautiful! The beds and bedding are lovely and the home in general is very comfortable. Carole went above and beyond in her communication with us and has a more than competent local manager in Claire. The region surrounding this home is idyllic and a pleasure to explore. We hope to return someday...”
